US allocates $2 million for demining operations affected by the Karabakh war

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. The US will provide
Assistance of $2,000,000 for humanitarian demining operations in areas
affected by the intense fighting in the fall of 2020 between Armenian and
Azerbaijani forces, “Trend” reports, citing the US State Department.

“The United States is committed to promoting regional peace and cooperation
I am pleased to announce $2,000,000 for humanitarian demining operations
in areas affected by the intense fighting between autumn 2020
Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the South Caucasus.

Building on the $500,000 announced in November 2021, new US
funding will continue to strengthen the technical capacity of
demining organizations to clear deadly landmines and unexploded ordnance
ammunition. These efforts play a critical role in strengthening man
security and enabling displaced communities to return to their own
homes and rebuild their lives safely.

The United States is the largest financial company in the world
supporter of the destruction of conventional weapons, investing over $4.7
billion in more than 100 countries since 1993 to promote
international peace and security by addressing the threats that
landmines and unexploded ordnance pose a danger to civilians,” the statement said
said.
