On Friday, Shania Twain released her first new song in five years, “Waking Up Dreaming” — and struck a sultry pose for the single’s cover.
The 57-year-old country-pop icon posed topless for the photos, wearing little more than a cowboy hat and a pair of colorful pointed-toe boots.
“I personally framed this photo. It was all about taking off my bra, taking off my shirt, tying my shirt around my waist,” Twain told The Sun.
“It’s a statement that I’m comfortable in my own skin and just being my true self.”
The man! I feel like a woman” hitmaker also addressed the backlash that female performers of a certain age often receive for flashing flesh.
“You have to be strong. I never get angry at criticism. You can’t please everyone, that’s normal,” she said.
And Twain’s famous friends and fans couldn’t get enough of the cover photo the superstar shared on Instagram last week.
Fellow country singer Orville Peck dropped heart emojis, while Drag Race winner Priyanka raved, “WE’RE READY.”
“Beautiful photo!!” added Mark Bauer, the fashion designer behind Twain’s iconic 1999 Grammys dress (which Kelsea Ballerini recently borrowed for the 2022 ACM Honors).
The new song comes after Twain joined Harry Styles on stage at Coachella in April for a surprise performance.
Twain is also working on a biopic and hinted at the prospect of a musical on the horizon.
A biopic would certainly be fun as she has led a wild life. In her Netflix documentary, Not Just a Girl, Twain reflects on her divorce from her adulterous ex-husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, who had an affair with her former personal assistant and best friend, Marie-Anne Thibault.
Twain married Marie-Anne’s ex-husband, Frederic Thibault.
