The Rob Zombie movie Munsters is headed to Netflix in September 2022, but only in the United States and won’t be labeled a Netflix Original.

Note: This article was first published on July 17, but has been updated with additional information as it comes to light.

The film will hit Netflix just in time for the Halloween season is a new reboot of the munsters, which is based on a television series that aired in the mid-1960s on CBS. The series focuses on a family of friendly monsters who have accidents without fully understanding why people react so strangely to them.

The new film, written and directed by Zombie, picks up the same story with the beloved monster family moving from Transylvania to suburban America.

It is expected to be released on Digital, Blu-Ray and DVD on September 27, 2022 and will be released on Netflix US day and date as well.

This means:

The Munsters comes to Netflix on September 27, 2022, according to Netflix’s September 2022 release schedule.

Jeff Daniel Phillips will star as Herman Munster, Sherry Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa Munster and Cassandra Peterson as Barbara Carr.

The first trailer debuted on July 13th, and it’s fair to say that it got a mixed reaction.

The announcement of the film coming to Netflix came via Rob Zombie himself on Instagram, where he posted:

“This fall we’re going to freak out like it’s 1964! Yes, THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY are back on the boob tube at the same time courtesy of @netflix. It has been 58 years since this clash of the titans first took place. Perfect fun for your pumpkin carving party. The Munsters and Wednesday are coming to Netflix

As Zombie points out, Netflix is ready to launch Wednesday based on Adams Family. However, the two titles are not coincidentally connected.

As DreadCentral notes, the arrival of the two on Netflix will be similar to 1964, when both original titles were first released, saying, “It looks like The Munsters and Addams will be facing off on TV again, just like in 1964.” Groovy.”

This has confused some publications like TeenVogue, as they state Wednesday and Munsters are internally linked in their articles. This is not the case with Zombie, who does not appear in any form in the Netflix series.

The Munsters will only be on Netflix in the United States

The film is distributed by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a Universal Pictures property. They are usually known for some of the smaller productions from the studio and are often associated with being “direct to DVD”, skipping theatrical release.

A representative for NBC Universal told us that Netflix has only licensed the film in the US, that it will be available later this year and that it is not a Netflix original title.

This means that if you’re outside the United States, you’ll likely have to rely on VOD services to get your Munsters fix.

Rob Zombie took to Facebook to clarify the situation and address the budget:

“How the hell did everyone know The Munsters was worth $40 million? Damn, I wish I had a budget like that.

To put all of this into perspective, if you add the budgets of Halloween 2, Lords of Salem, 31, 3 from Hell, and The Munsters all together, it won’t even come close to 30 million.
Also the film never went to theaters either Peacock or Paramount. It was always made for Netflix, which is good since it’s the biggest streaming service. This was done long before I joined the project. I have no control or opinion on this type of thing. It’s a one-size-fits-all deal.

But the internet loves to make up rumors that somehow turn into facts so that fans can get bent out of shape.

None of this really matters, but I thought you might enjoy the true story.

We’ve seen numerous films from Universal’s sister studio make their SVOD debut on Netflix over the years. This includes Dragonheart Vengeance, American Pie Presents Girls’ Rules, and Bobbleheads The Movie.

On the other hand, Netflix is set to get exclusive global rights to the upcoming 47 Ronin sequel 47 Ronin Blade.

Are you leaving? Munsters on Netflix? Let us know in the comments.
