With the one-two combination of Dynamic Island and an always-on display, Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max make the 16-year-old iPhone feel again.

It’s been 16 years since the iPhone’s launch and there’s still no “next big thing”, as long as you forget about the clock, the AirPods, and those completely redesigned MacBooks.
Considering how hustle and bustle the smartphone market has been this year, the iPhone 14 Pro is easily the most exciting new release of 2022 and it’s almost entirely down to a genius feature. The Dynamic Island: A really cool idea with a name that only Liz Truss could love.
Not only does Dynamic Island seem essential right out of the box, it’s the kind of feature that can only be created for iPhones.
You see, instead of signing up for the year once the notch size has shrunk, Apple has decided to make virtue of what is essentially a black pill in the middle of a 6.1 or 6.7-inch touchscreen, to depending on whether you choose for iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max. Instead, the DI expands and contracts depending on the context and the apps you are using.
The feature already works with apps like Spotify, WhatsApp, and Instagram and is set to expand in the not-too-distant future with Live Activity for iOS 16. Essentially, these are exactly what you think they are: notifications that update in time. real like sports scores, Uber ETA and training tracking …
What’s worth reiterating is that the iPhone 14 Pro’s DI and always-on display are good because they are useful. Rival producers have enjoyed years of advantage trying to get around these puzzles. He’s saying that Apple has taken the time to come up with something unique and far more compelling.
