Hunt wants Dragons NRL future resolved

St George Illawarra captain Ben Hunt said he had no interest in leaving the club despite a confrontation with the Dragons over a contract extension.

The midfielder was arguably the best of his 2022 career in a struggling Dragons team, but has yet to put a new contract on paper.

Hunt can speak to rival clubs about his 2024 destination from November 1 and with a shortage of good halfbacks or prostitutes – a position he played for Queensland’s home team this year – the 32-year-old is likely. be a hot property.

Dolphins, Canterbury and Gold Coast have all been cited as possible destinations for the Maroons star.

But after Sunday’s 24-22 win over the Wests Tigers, Hunt insisted there was only one place he wanted to play.

“Every day it seems like something pops up,” he said.

“I’ll just wait for the end of the season and I only have one week left.

“We will solve it and we are working on it. I like the club and I’m happy to stay. “

Hunt will be 34 when the 2024 season arrives, but he looked like he was worth every penny of his $ 1.2 million contract.

The Dragons insist their offers were commensurate with its value, although the ripple effect of Hunt’s stay could lead to director Jayden Sullivan leaving the club.

Sullivan, 20, played prostitute against the Tigers and there’s a school of thought that he and Hunt may be in the best position to switch roles in 2023.

Hunt has only reached the final once during his five-year stint with the Dragons and has been reported to want clarification on the future of manager Anthony Griffin before making a decision.

The two are close and there are rumors of a split with the Dragons team, which Griffin denied on Sunday.

“I have no idea,” Griffin said after the victory which raised morale.

“Last week was a good week and even if it wasn’t great today, winning gives you joy and confidence.”
