At least eight dead in Afghan quake

At least eight people were killed overnight in an earthquake in northeastern Afghanistan and the toll could rise, according to an official quoted by the new state agency.

“The earthquake on Sunday evening caused financial and human losses in Kunar province,” Mawlavi Najibullah Hanif, director of information and culture in Kunar and spokesman for the governor, told the news agency. Bakhtar press release.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.3 magnitude earthquake near the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan in the early hours of Monday morning.

Afghanistan is still rocked by a violent earthquake that killed more than 1,000 people and wiped out villages in eastern Afghanistan in June.
