Agar revelling in return to Aussie side

Two months between games meant Ashton Agar was briefly lost, but the left arm offspinner quickly settled in Far North Queensland ahead of a months-long blockbuster for the Australian team.

Agar left the June-July tour of Sri Lanka before the final test, succumbing to a lateral sprain injury.

It was a blow to the 28-year-old who had already missed the Pakistan tour earlier this year after contracting COVID-19.

But he has been chosen for the next T20 World Cup team at home, starting October 16, and is eager to fend for himself ahead of the busy summer schedule.

Taking a wicket in his first ODI appearance since June on Wednesday, Agar said there was a brief period of sensationalism against Zimbabwe.

“It’s always weird to play in the middle when you haven’t played in a while,” Agar told reporters in Townsville.

“You lose your bearings a bit like you’re taking your run and going into the fold.

“Once you’re out there and take out the first balls, it’s a real feeling of freedom. It was really nice to come back ”.

Hagar and Australia’s one-day squad ended their streak with Zimbabwe with one game remaining after five and eight wicket wins at Riverway Stadium.

Ahead of Saturday’s final game and an upcoming streak against New Zealand in Cairns, Agar said he will look to wipe out East Africans quickly and clinically.

“It’s a no-brainer on this field to play first and try to get a team moving as fast as possible and get the job done,” he said.

“A lot of people want us to beat first, but I think we’ll try to be as ruthless as possible. It is a good preparation ”.

Saturday’s ODI final against Zimbabwe begins at 9:40 AEST before the Australian moves further north and begins his three-game streak against the Black Caps on Tuesday.
