Baliguda: A woman Maoist was killed and around 20 others managed to escape during an exchange of fire with Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel in Sindhi forest bordering Kandhamal, today.

Acting on a tip-off about the existence of Maoist camp belonging to outlawed Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division, the team of SOG personnel led by Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal launched a combing operation in the dense forest, a police source said.

“Following the exchange of fire that continued for long hours, the female ultra member was killed. However, about twenty more red rebels fled from the spot,” a senior SOG official expressed.

Identity of the deceased Maoist has not been ascertained yet, the SOG official further said.
