After their marriage, the husband-wife argument continued. Accordingly, the woman lived in her father’s house, not her husband’s. She also ran a salon in the name of ‘Krishna Beauty Parlour’ in front of Singhla Police Station.

Earlier, separate cases were filed by the wife and husband at Ballyapala and Singla police stations.

He later reportedly surrendered at the Singla police station along with the weapon used in the crime. After the incident, locals rushed Jayanthi to a hospital in Basta in a critical condition.

Locals said that Purna Chandra often beat his wife in a drunken state and thus a family dispute continued between the two.
