Cowboys season opener September 11th was when Prescott hurt his thumb. As he completed his throw in the fourth quarter, his arm collided with the arm of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers player.
When asked about the injury after the game, Prescott said he didn’t realize how bad it was at first. “I’ve hit my hand on helmets or bodies many times in my career,” he said, according to The New York Times. “I’ve never had anything, maybe a stuck finger. I thought that was it. The next play I realized I couldn’t hold the ball.”
However, after further examinations, doctors determined that Prescott’s thumb was broken and surgery was required. Prescott could be out for up to eight weeks, as reported by Sports Illustrated.
