Twitter asks users to share, copy a link instead of taking screenshots

New Delhi: Microblogging platform Twitter on Friday started sending notifications to many users while taking screenshots of tweets, prompting them to share the tweets instead.

First spotted by app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter has started sending pop-up notifications to some users when they take a screenshot.

“Twitter is trying to convince me to share a Tweet or copy a link instead of taking a screenshot of a Tweet,” she posted.

Social media consultant Matt Navarro also noticed the new feature rolling out to some users.

“Twitter no longer wants you to take screenshots of tweets. It wants active platform users who view tweets instead of screenshots on competing platforms. One of them now pops up when you take a screenshot,” he said.

The new feature appears to be an attempt by Twitter to attract more users to its platforms rather than just reading forwarded screenshots.

Meanwhile, Twitter has started rolling out the Edit Button feature for Blue subscribers in the US.

The platform has already launched an “Edit Button” for Blue subscribers in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. However, there is no mention of the availability of the feature for the Indian audience.

The new tweet editing feature comes with some limitations. For example, users cannot edit tweets 30 minutes after they are posted.

Twitter Blue subscriptions are paid on a monthly basis and are priced regionally based on the current US price of $4.99.
