Town of Cottesloe still chasing fees from closed restaurants and past events

The city of Cottesloe is still pursuing licensing and waste taxes from bars and restaurants that have closed or moved.

The revelations surfaced Tuesday in a board briefing after Cr Kirsty Barrett inquired about large amounts of unpaid taxes that had been over 90 days past due.

City compliance officer Freya Ayliffe said that under the food law, a food company must notify the city when it has gone out of business.

“Very often they don’t, so we always send them the bills and they’re gone,” Ms. Ayliffe said.

“We refer cases to our debt collectors, but very often we fail to recover the money.”

Ms. Ayliffe confirmed that the city was still looking for the money.

The city’s financial assets statement shows that KMAG Events, which operates as Cottesloe Eatz and Beatz Festival, owed $ 8,713.09 for more than 90 days and owes more than $ 13,000 in total.

It also reveals that Lucky Seven WA Pty Ltd owes $ 4157.18 in healthcare fees for over 90 days, Ocean Group Cottesloe owes $ 2000.18 in healthcare fees and food law violation for more than 90 days, and TG Lyons owes $ 1,000 in violation of building law for more than 90 days.

Ms Ayliffe said the figures were for rents and waste. The city was in a dispute with Eatz and Beatz over waste costs and waste delivery.

“It is controversial at the moment, but hopefully it will be resolved,” he said.
