The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 racing car celebrates 55 years of AMG

It’s the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55, and it’s a limited-edition AMG GT race car that looks like it’s part of the fray of other limited-production cars just revealed at Monterey Car Week. Mercedes is only building five of these Edition 55 race cars, and there are a number of things that set them apart from the regular AMG GT GT3 car.

To begin with, this vehicle is not homologated by the FIA, so it does not need to adhere to the restrictions. That means the 6.3-liter V8 under the hood makes 100 horsepower more than the regulation-compliant version, bringing total power output to a mighty 650 horsepower. Mercedes-AMG is also removing the muffler from the Inconel exhaust system, meaning this AMG GT will be suitably louder with its extra power.

The exterior is finished in a unique Manufaktur Alpine Gray Uni and features red accents along with a visible carbon fiber matte finish throughout. You’ll notice the 55th anniversary logo (for 55 years of AMG) on the rear wing, and the Affalterbach crest is painted on the doors.

Inside, the Edition 55 features a special, visible chassis finish in anthracite metallic matte paint. The seats are decorated with special embroidery of the anniversary symbol. Additionally, an ‘Edition 55 – 1 of 5’ plaque can be found on the center console and seats. The seat belts are finished with silver accents. Finally, the data display module is an upgraded Bosch part that includes a 55th anniversary logo when it loads when you start the car.

All this can be bought at a price of 625,000 euros. Converted to US dollars at today’s exchange rate, that’s just over $624,000. Included in that price, Mercedes adds a fitted car hood with the 55th anniversary logo and a special IWC Schaffhausen watch that includes your specific car’s chassis number. engraved on the back of the watch case.
