Six ways to refresh your home this spring/summer

With the sun starting to come out, it’s time to open your windows and let the rays and breeze come into your home.

Refreshing your interior after winter may seem daunting, but there are many little things that can help inject life and love into a space. From an internal garden to taking the time to tidy up.

Here are our tips to prepare you for spring / summer.

Bring the outside in

The easiest way to add life to a space is to bring the outside in – think inside flowers and trees. A set of flowers will add a pop of color; a great way to brighten up your space by adding shine, texture and freshness. Search Google for a flower market near you or support your local florist. Indoor trees are a staple in a room. They don’t have the same shades as a bouquet of flowers, but greenery is a must if you’re looking for a fresh feel and they sure last longer than flowers. Our favorites: the violin leaf fig, the majestic tree and the rubber tree.

Get ready for spring cleaning

Don’t be afraid to clean up, tidy up and organize yourself. You will feel better when you are done. Write a list, distribute it to the people you live with, and dust, wash and scrub – do whatever it takes to feel like you’ve hit your home’s reset button. Take the time to tidy up, tidy up your mind, and help you feel fresh as a daisy.

A coat of paint

A fresh coat of paint on the walls will help bring a fresh touch to your home. Think of colors that say: fresh air, blooming flowers, cool breeze. It can look like creamy yellow, coral, sea foam green – don’t fear a pop of color – or crisp white.

If you have empty walls, fill them with colors, shapes and textures. If you have the budget to support an artist, go for it, or it could be as simple as hanging paintings with your kid’s fingers. Adding a pop of color to the walls will brighten the space to match the sunny weather to come and add a personal touch, making the space unique for you.

Reconfigure a room

Have you ever moved the bed around the room to feel like it’s a different space? The same goes for the rest of the house. Move the sofa, the coffee table. Change it up and make it fun, keeping balance and functionality in mind. It’s a great way to feel like you’re living in a new space and re-appreciate your beloved furniture and tchotchke.

Clean your windows

This is easily something many of us overlook, but what we may not realize is how important our windows are. Natural light can easily make or break a space, and dirt, buildup, and otherwise grubby windows can throw a party when you’re looking to bask in that afternoon glow. Grab your supplies – a clean microfiber cloth or washcloth is a good choice, or a spatula if you like to use a lot of water, and give it a try. If you have shutters, a great way to clean them effectively is to take them outside and wash them with water.
