Sanders’ diagnosis comes after Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a former senior White House adviser, revealed that he battled thyroid cancer while serving in the last administration.

Ivanka Trump’s 41-year-old husband wrote about his battle with cancer in Breaking History, a White House memoir that was published last month.

A doctor for Sanders told The Associated Press that he expects the gubernatorial candidate to be back on his feet in the next 24 hours.

After the surgery, Dr. John R. Sims said the former White House press secretary will need adjuvant radioactive iodine treatment and will need to be monitored long-term.

“I think it’s fair to say she’s now cancer-free, and I don’t expect any of this to slow her down,” Sims said.

Sanders is the daughter of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who twice ran for the Republican presidential nomination.

She worked on her father’s presidential campaign before becoming an aide to Trump during his 2016 bid.

She became the White House Press Secretary in July 2016 following the resignation of Sean Spicer.

Sanders is in office until July 2019.
