Picking up the thread after Monkey Island 2

Return to Monkey Island was made by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox, who developed the point and click adventure Thimbleweed Park, in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games. Ron Gilbert is the original creator of The Secret of Monkey Island, returning to the series that made him famous.

One of the most ingenious steps taken here is that the game picks up on the theme of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

With Ron Gilbert on the team are many of the original developers of the early Monkey Island games. Among other things, Dave Grossman will help write the story and design the game, as he also did with the first two Monkey Island games, while Michael Land is behind the music along with Peter McConnel and Clint Bajakian, with whom he worked during the LucasArts days.

Dominic Armato also returns as the voice of protagonist Guybrush Threepwood, a role he has held since Guybrush first received a voice in the third game in the series.
