PSOE code of ethics prevents ‘support for pardons for corruption convictions’

The PSOE Code of Ethicsapproved with Pedro Sanchez as General Secretary of the Party, forbids expressly pardon in cases of corruption.

Specifically, on Article 8.1 of the ordinance establishes: “Not to offer or support pardons to public officials convicted of crimes related to corruptiongender-based violence, crimes of harassment or discrimination (…) as well as committing acts constituting serious crimes.’

This would prevent the government from pardoning those convicted in the ERE case, which include the former leaders of Andalusian socialism Manuel Chavez Y Jose Antonio Grinan. Despite what was predicted by the PSOE, neither the party nor the government they have turned off at no time the possibility of forgive them.

The judgment of ERE dictated by Provincial Court of Seville convicted ten of the defendants for appropriation public funds and overcooking, and nine more for the second offense. The Supreme Court confirms in full the decision of the court by which it confirms prison sentences from eight to six years and disqualification between the ages of nineteen and eight.

Since the Supreme Court’s decision, the PSOE has repeatedly repeated its “confidence” for Manuel Chavez and Jose Antonio Grignan and focused his defense on the fact that “they did not take a cent of Euros”. However, no need that convicts steal money so that there is corruption.

The Penal Code it does not include a “crime of corruption” as such, but includes a series of specific offenses related to it. They are on the list overcooking (town planning and administrative) and of appropriationExcept for trading in influence, frauds and illegal takings or corruption in international business transactionsby the way.

Thus, the condemnation of before the case they cannot be pardoned according to the socialist code of ethics, since it forbids them in cases “related to corruption“. The text of the article clearly covers the crimes described above.

Apologies for the “process”

If the PSOE ends up pardoning Grignan, it won’t be the first time it has breached its own Code of Ethics. In June last year, Council of Ministers chaired by Sánchez, approved pardons for nine convicted of “the trial”even though they were in prison for “serious crimes“.

The rules, drawn up in 2014, a few months after Sánchez’s arrival on the Ferraz board, included Article 8 on the pardon policy, precisely for “mark a position in the face of the independence challenge“, according to sources consulted by EL ESPAÑOL.

However, seven years after the rule was drawn up, Sanchez himself ignored it to meet the demands of republican lefthis current partner in government.
