The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have adopted a new rescue dog.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, welcomed a seven-year-old beagle named Momma Mia who was rescued from a US herd owned by an animal research company last month and the couple were praised for having opted for an older dog rather than a puppy.
Animal rights attorney Shannon Keith, who helps run the Beagle Freedom Project, told People.com: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are the most loving, sensitive and caring adopters I’ve ever had. were so honored that they supported the Beagle Freedom Project and chose to adopt a dog that had been mistreated.

“They wanted to adopt a savior named Mia, who most would overlook because she is older, has health problems and is traumatized by her past. I was so impressed with their commitment to animal welfare! They followed up to let us know how Mamma Mia is doing in her amazing new home!
Shannon later revealed that she received a personal phone call from Meghan asking her to adopt a beagle – but mistook her for another actress – Megan Fox – and it took her half an hour to complete the mistake.
He told the Los Angeles Times: “The Duchess called me personally. She calls my cellphone with no caller ID and says, “Hey Shannon, it’s Meghan”. We talked for 30 minutes and I was like, ‘Is that Megan Fox?’ “
She later revealed that Meghan had visited the Beagle Freedom Project Rescue Center in San Fernando Valley, California and was determined to give the older dog a home rather than her puppies, adding, “The Duchess wants Mia and she was like “We” re adopting her. She was like ‘No, we don’t want a Christmas puppy … We want the ones we can help who are older’.
The Duchess had already adopted another Beagle named Guy in 2015 after being assisted by a rescue center called A Dog’s Dream Rescue.
