Poland has discovered a leak in a key pipeline carrying Russian oil to Europe

Polish pipeline operator PERN discovered a leak late Tuesday evening in one of Druzhba’s pipelines, which carries oil from Russia to Europe, the company said in a press statement.

“Currently the causes of the accident are unknown – pumping in the damaged line was immediately turned off. The other line of [Druzhba] the oil pipeline is operating without changes,” the announcement said.

The company said the leak was located about 70 kilometers from the western town of Plock and was on the main route transporting crude oil to Germany. He added that other infrastructure continues to work.

The report comes two weeks after several leaks were discovered on the Nord Stream pipelines, which carry gas from Russia to Europe, in the Baltic Sea after suspected sabotage.
