Phygital Ring, For IRL and the Metaverse, To be Auctioned by Sotheby’s

Phygital’s glittery stuff seems to be the next big thing for NFT lovers. An upcoming auction, hosted by Sotheby’s, is selling a collection that includes a ring that can be worn both in the metaverse and in real life. It will be auctioned along with pieces from big names like Picasso and Salvador Dalí.

The sale “Art as jewels as art” will take place in September. The phygital ring (which encompasses both the physical and digital worlds) was conceived by Francine Ballard of Metagolden.

There are so many new ways to invest. And for NFT enthusiasts, having both physical and digital items can be a little more tempting than just owning an NFT.

Ballard says, “For consumers under 30, digital assets have become as important as physical ones. Luxury is awakening to this fact now. And this is where our brand is.”

Called the “Ethereum Expedition”, the ring does not yet have a published price guide. The purchaser of the 18K gold, emerald and 18K gold ring will own the piece both in the metaverse and in the physical world. However they can sell the NFT or physical ring as separate pieces later.

The Ethereum Expedition Ring looks like a miniature geodesic dome. The artist states that the piece is “inspired by intercontinental rocket launches that typically last up to sixteen hours, which would be shortened to about thirty minutes via emerging space programs such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX”.

Phygital jewelry paired with NFT

Metagolden is a platform that sells jewelry anchored to an NFT. They say the goal is “to connect people to a new retail experience where status is measured by scarcity and differentiation and value is attributed by return on investment.”

They say their mission is to “demystify the Web3 and provide tangibility to the intangible, while at the same time transforming consumers into investors”.

Metagolden has already sold its NFT paired jewelry in the Metaverse. For example, they have their own shop in Decentraland. You can also purchase the items at the ARTCADE @Fred Segal store. And, at the CashLabs Gallery, Crypto Valley. There are also some pieces on OpenSea.

If collecting beautiful items is the road to financial freedom, then this is an interesting proposition. The Sotheby’s auction will take place from 24 September to 4 Octoberth.
