Phillips aims high for Port’s AFLW debut

AFLW superstar Erin Phillips isn’t limiting what Port Adelaide newcomers can achieve in their debut season.

The most awarded player in the competition has left Adelaide central after two best and most loyal in the league and three best bouts with the Crows since her former club’s grand finale in April.

Normally a star pass from the Crows to the Port would be fraught with controversy, but no one would criticize Phillips for the opportunity to play for the club where his father Greg is a legend.

The 37-year-old Port captain in his first season and his first game against the West Coast Wooden Spoons last season on Saturday.

“You want to win, we are all competitors, we all want to win,” Phillips told AAP of Power’s first season expectations.

“Of course we know we are a young team, but we will compete as hard as possible and play with a brand that the fans, members and fans will love to go out and watch.

“We hope this happens successfully, so we will always have high goals.”

Harbor appears to be the best of the four expansion teams with manager Lauren Arnell developing a young and exciting roster.

“I only played her, now she is my coach,” Phillips said of Arnell.

His knowledge of football is incredible, his care and his investment not only for our team but for the club in general.

“She’s just upbeat and always positive, so it’s great to have her and she trained us to have that competitive edge she had as a player (at Carlton and Brisbane Lions).”
