Berhampur: Jayanatha Quamr Malik, Junior Clerk and Premanjana Swain, Data Entry Operator at Narcotics Inspectorate Ganjam Range-1 office in Berhampur were detained by Odisha Vigilance on bribery charges.
Both Jayanatha and Premanjana were arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/- from the appellant (manager of a drug shop) for issuing an order in his favor for changing the location of the drug shop. The entire bribe amount was recovered by the accused junior officer.
After the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at Mallick’s office and rented house and Premanjana’s toilet at DA corner.
In this regard a case of Berhampur Vigilance PS No. 23/2022 U/s 7PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered.Investigation is on against both accused Malik and Swain.
