Set to premiere on Netflix worldwide in December 2022, Troll is the big new fantasy film coming out of Norway from director Roar Uthaug. Here’s everything we know about it so far troll.

According to the director Rev Utaugthe idea of troll has been a development in the back of his mind for the past 20 years.

The idea of troll is of Utaug with the screenplay for the film written by Espen Aukan, who has worked on projects such as Vikingulven, The Games, and Wettlaufer’s widow.

Here’s what Utaug had to say about developing the film for Netflix:

“Troll is an idea that has been developing in my mind for over 20 years. To finally be able to make it happen with the enthusiastic and ambitious people at Netflix and Motion Blur is truly a dream come true. I can’t wait to unleash this Norwegian monster on the world.”

During the initial announcement, David Kose, Vice President of International Original Film at Netflix, commented:

“We are extremely proud to present a Norwegian project of this scale to the world together with Roar Uthaug and Motion Blur. Roar is an extremely skilled director and I’m excited for him to return to his Norwegian roots with this ambitious, entertaining film.”

Producers Espen Horn and Christian Strand Sinkerud added:

“We are thrilled to bring Troll, a Norwegian fairy-tale character acted, directed and produced by Norwegians to life for the global market. We at Motion Blur are thrilled to finally announce this collaboration with director Roar Uthaug and Netflix.”

Espen Horn and Christian Strand Sinkerud are producing for Motion Blur, having previously worked on the Netflix film corpse.

What is the Netflix release date troll?

When the film was originally announced in August 2020, Netflix confirmed that it would be released sometime in 2022.

What’s On Netflix can exclusively reveal Netflix expects the film to be released on the service on December 1, 2022. We will inform you once we receive confirmation.

What is the plot of troll?

Here is the official logline for Netflix troll as shared by Variety:

Deep in the mountains of Dovre, Norway, something gigantic is awakening after being trapped for a thousand years. Destroying everything in its path, the creature quickly approaches Norway’s capital, with the townspeople fighting to stop something they thought only existed in Norwegian folklore.

And here’s a different one from the Netflix website itself:

When an ancient troll is awakened in a Norwegian mountain, a group of heroes must come together to try to stop it from wreaking deadly havoc.


Who is thrown into troll?

Netflix used to pair Tomb Raider duo, director Roar Utaug and actress Alicia Vikander for the Norwegian film troll.

Unfortunately, Alicia Vikander left the project.

Ine Marie Vilman is a critically acclaimed Norwegian actress, well known for her roles in the drama Homecoming and the biopic about the inventor of modern figure skating, Sonja Heni, in Sonia: The White Swan. Willman’s role as Nora in Troll will officially be her Netflix debut.

Mads Sjøgård Pettersen previously starred as Stein in the holiday comedy Netflix Original Home for Christmas. Petersen also starred in the biopic Eddie the Eagle Eddie the Eagle like Eric Moberg.

What is the production status of troll?

Produced for Netflix troll began in September 2021, as reported in Production Weekly issue 1261. Filming wrapped on December 12, 2021 and has been in post-production ever since.

Filming takes place primarily in Oslo, Norway.
