Cherlynn Basso for Engadget:

My immediate thought when I first saw Watch Ultra was “This is the Cat phone of smartwatches”. It’s a one watch monster truck. Not only does it have a larger screen than most wearables on the market, it’s heavier too. The Watch Ultra weighs a whopping 61.3 grams (2.16 ounces) … 45mm Series 8 stainless steel, which is the next heavier Apple Watch, comes in at 51.5 grams (1.81 ounces).

But despite having a 49mm screen, the Watch Ultra actually looks less clunky than Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, which uses a 45mm titanium case. I found the Watch 5 Pro inconvenient compared to the Ultra.

The Apple Watch Ultra could be the ultimate smartwatch. Sure, it doesn’t have the same long-lasting battery life as some Garmin or Fitbit wearables, and it lacks some of the exercise tracking features these two offer such as rep tracking or recovery stats. Those looking to track their sleep may prefer the lower profile of the Series 8 or SE. Even people who don’t dive, walk, cycle or run out regularly don’t need to spend extra money on the Ultra – the 8 Series is more than capable as a daily fitness tracker. But with a durable build, useful tools for specialized use cases, and the general ability of watchOS as a traditional smartwatch platform, the Watch Ultra is a powerful companion that most outdoor enthusiasts can rely on.

MacDailyNews takes: No “power” about it: Apple Watch Ultra is the ultimate smartwatch. No other so-called non-Apple smartwatch can compete with the usability, app library, accessory support or build quality of the Apple Watch Ultra.
