MG ZS EV price cut makes it Australia’s most affordable EV

MG cut $ 2,000 off the price of its ZS EV at launch, making it the most affordable electric vehicle in Australia … except Tasmania.

The new drive-thru starting price of $ 44,990 for the MG ZS EV Excite is down from the $ 46,990 drive-thru sticker announced in March and means the ZS is lower than the BYD Act 3 in all states except of Tasmania.

Where MG absorbs the difference in road costs such as stamp duty and registration to offer a national car price, the BYD sticker differs depending on where you buy it.

Although Act 3 has a list price of $ 44,381.35, the final drive-through price ranges from $ 44,990 in Tasmania to $ 47,935 in Western Australia due to various incentives offered in Australia.

Despite longer battery life, a new sharper look and a more modern interior, the MG ZS EV 2023 will have the same starting sticker as its predecessor.

New for 2023, however, is the top-of-the-line Essence model and its $ 48,990 sticker unit.

Some of the features of the previous unique model range, including a panoramic sunroof and rear cross-traffic warning, are now exclusive to the Essenza. You can see a full breakdown of the range in our pricing and specs article.

“We have managed to bring unprecedented value to the Australian market and are now entering a new phase of our growth with the new ZS EV. This is the first step in our new journey to an electric future that is here today, said Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Australia.

“While value remains at the heart of our product offering, value means different things to different people and we want to deliver that value to as many people as possible.”

The new ZS EV uses a Tesla Model 3-style lithium iron phosphate battery designed to maximize stability and offers a claimed range of 320km, compared to 263km (WLTP).

MG has also updated the drive motor and claims to have improved the battery management electronics.

Peak power is 130 kW, from 105 kW, and peak torque has been reduced from 350 Nm to 280 Nm. The 100 km / h sprint lasts 8.2 seconds.

Other improvements to the new ZS EV include a smoother driver display, 10.1-inch touchscreen, LED headlights with auto dimming, new LED taillights, new 17-inch alloy wheels and modified grille with a charging port of type 2 updated.
