Kia Sportage Race Car Teased For This Year’s Rebelle Rally

Another South Korean carmaker will participate in this year’s Rebelle Rally. Kia joins Hyundai with a racing version of the new Sportage 2023 and the company’s American division has just released the first teaser image with the vehicle. Not all mechanical details are known right now, but Kia is sharing some early information.

The attached rendering at the top of this page shows a race-ready Sportage with off-road tires, raised suspension, added underbody protection, and other hardware upgrades. Kia says the car’s livery is inspired by its new slogan “Movement that Inspires” and features a gray, white and black color scheme. In general, Kia explains that the Sportage X-Pro will undergo “minimal” changes during the preparations for the rally. A full debut album will arrive in the coming weeks.

This year’s Rebelle event will start on 6 October. The eight-day, 1,500-mile event will begin in an as yet undisclosed location in Nevada and the finish is in the Imperial Sand Dunes of Southern California. Recall that the Rebelle Rally is not a competition of speed, but of direction, hidden checkpoints and time, with competitors using maps and a compass to navigate. They are not allowed to use cell phones or GPS devices and the race organizers collect cell phones at the start of the event to protect themselves from potential cheaters.
