90 Day Fiance alum Joey Dufresne’s love of travel has been a point he’s driven home many times within the franchise and through his social media.
Being involved in underwater robotics, Jovi has to travel a lot for work and travel all over the world. When he is not working and enjoying his weekends off, he also takes this opportunity to travel.
This time, Jovi shared a crazy story about something that happened to him when he was in Cape Town, South Africa, involving a scary scene in a nightclub.
90 Day Fiance fans know that Yovi loves to indulge and have a good time, so this incident that happened happened when he was on location after hours.
Yovi was originally on Season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé, where his current wife, Ukrainian Yara Zaya, came to the US. The couple unexpectedly got pregnant right away and had to endure a pregnancy in the era of COVID-19, with Jovi away at work and unable to return to the US for most of it.
Jovi and Yara’s 90-day engagement journey continued in Season 6 of Happily Ever After? and they’ve also been on 90 Day Diaries and Pillow Talk, and Yara was on 90 Day Bares All.
Jovi Dufresne detailed a terrifying experience in South Africa
Jovi took to his Instagram platform to share a video where he talked about his recent trip to South Africa where he was involved in a scary experience.
First he talks about how great South Africa is and that he’s visited two big cities and gone on safari and that the people are great, but he moves on to talking about the accident.
Jovi said he and his friends weren’t done partying, so they went to an underground club after hours after 2 a.m. and got drinks. He said that almost immediately after they got drunk, he and his friends started coughing so hard they had to run for the exits. He specified that they were close to the exits, but hundreds of people started experiencing the same cough and headed for the full exits.
He explained, “Everybody suffocates,” saying, “It wasn’t tear gas because it didn’t burn your eyes.”
He continued to give a safety message and asked a question, noting, “Be safe when you go out and I was wondering if anyone knows what this thing could be?” referring to whatever was making everyone cough.
Jovi concluded his story by saying, “I’m not saying anything bad about South Africa, worse things happen in New Orleans, I can promise you.”
In his caption, Jovi wrote: “Sharing the crazy part of my trip to South Africa. It’s probably my fault that I went somewhere I shouldn’t have. My lungs were on fire for a few days after eating and drinking, but I’m home now and feel much better after that. And don’t worry guys, I still plan on coming back.

It was revealed that Jovi and Yara will be cast members on Season 7 of Happily Ever After?
They will be joined by alumni Big Ed Brown and Liz Woods, Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi, Jovi Dufren and Yara Zaya, Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh, Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet and Kimberly Menzies and Usman Umar.
Season 7 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? premieres Sunday, August 28 at 8/7c on TLC and Discovery+.
