“It shows immaturity, cynicism and a weak sense of country”

Feijóo is left with short legs. All he said he would do upon his arrival was a an absolute lie“. With these statements of Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokesman, Elizabeth Rodriguez, the executive raises the tone of criticism against The leader of the PP, Alberto Nunes Feijoo, on whom they are focusing their attacks, especially after their rise in the polls for weeks now.

This Monday, Rodriguez accused Feijoo of “lack of sense of country“for not supporting the renewal of the General Council of State, something which constituted, he said, a violation of the constitution.

In statements to TVE, the minister’s spokesperson explained that Feijoo was aware of the pact the government reached with Pablo Casado’s PP in the said renewal. “It’s obvious that Feijóo knew him. (…) Lies have very short legs”he stated, openly calling the PP leader a liar.

For Rodriguez, for Feijoo “Spain is big for him” and it turned out to be “the complete opposite” of what it said it would be. “The Spanish have some time to discover the real Feijoo before the general election. He showed it immaturity, low solvency and cynicism. He said he came to do another kind of more mature politics,” he said.

For the Minister of Territorial Policy, “no one enters the head” that Feijóo is coming to take over the leadership of the PP and don’t take on big government affairs such as the judicial system.

He also indicated that after the meeting he had with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at the Palacio de la Moncloa, there was common ground to continue the talks on this matter.

Stop your rise in the polls

This is another government attack on Feijóo. These criticisms correspond to a socialist argument, since practically all ministers, even the most moderate ones, whenever they have the opportunity, pick on Feijoo and put him in the center of the target.

This line of action obeys the slogan of limited its rise in sociological surveys and try to reverse this trend.

On July 19, for the first time in four years, The Center for Sociological Research put the People’s Party at the top of the vote with a percentage of 30%. Four days later, the PSOE held a Federal Commission in which Sánchez restructured the party’s leadership.

Since then, PSOE ministers have come out storming to criticize Feijóo with qualifications such as “ignorant”, “sectarian”, “incompetent” or “of vague knowledge”.

Decree on energy saving

He also referred to the PP when he informed that the government is working to get the support of the parliamentary groups for decree with energy-saving measures which will be voted on this week in Congress and emphasizes that those who do not support it will have to explain themselves to the citizens.

Pending the direction of the main opposition party’s vote on this issue, the government spokesman indicated that with Pablo Casado at the head of the PP, that party was “denier”but with the arrival of Feijoo, he continued to “impede” the action of the executive.
