is considering running for president of the United States

Liz Cheney lost the GOP primary in Wyoming, but vows to keep fighting Trump. The Republican representative promised to do everything possible to keep Donald Trump out of the White House and said this she will decide in the coming months whether to run for president herself.

In an interview with NBC this Wednesday, Cheney said he would “whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office” and that he is considering running for president. “It’s something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the next few months,” he said.

“I believe in this Donald Trump continues to pose a very serious threat and risk for our republic. And I think his victory will take a broad, united front of Republicans, Democrats and independents. And I intend to be a part of that,” the Republican explained.

Cheney’s primary loss to Trump-backed Harriet Hageman, marks a significant victory for the former president in his campaign to remove Republicans who backed his impeachment after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol last year.

In her defeat speech, Cheney, who played a leading role in the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill, said she was unwilling to “accept President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election” to win the primary. “I should have allowed it their attempts to destroy our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic. It was a path I couldn’t and didn’t want to take,” he told his followers.

Harriet Hageman criticized Cheney’s concession speech, saying it showed he didn’t care much about the issues facing his state. “He still focuses on an obsession with President Trump and the citizens of Wyoming, the voters of Wyoming sent a very strong message tonight,” he said on Fox News.

Eliminate Trump’s critics

Cheney’s impeachment is the latest sign of Trump’s dominance of the Republican Party. The former president, who has hinted he will run for office in 2024, has made ending Cheney’s career in Congress a priority among the 10 House Republicans he has named to support an impeachment trial in 2021.

Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, used her position on the January 6 committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the Capitol riots to put the spotlight on Trump’s actions that day and his false claims that he won the 2020 election.

After the November election, Republican leaders are expected to end the investigation starting Jan. 6 if they win control of the House. Cheney voted to impeach Trump for inciting riots on Capitol Hill, while Murkowski in the Senate voted to convict him on that charge. In the end, Trump was acquitted.

Of the 10 Republicans who supported impeachment, only one, Dan Newhouse of Washington, may be in Congress after the November elections.
