Iron Man VR was a good game that suffered from Sony’s outdated VR technology. This will not be the case for the next project.
The Superhero Game was a Sony commissioned work and the latest great Playstation VR exclusive title. It was released for Playstation VR in 2020 and got a lot of press attention because Iron Man is a big name.
However, the reviewers weren’t thrilled with Iron Man VR at all. The responsible studio Camouflaj got a lot out of Playstation VR, but ultimately lost the battle against outdated technology
The old PS4, ancient motion controllers, and a tracking system not designed for free-roaming in space showed the studio’s limitations. Limitations that would not have been applied in the case of Playstation VR 2.

Camouflaj could get a well-deserved second chance from Sony. The studio’s job advertisements and the latest message from studio head Ryan Payton indicate this.
On the game company’s official website, Payton writes that his studio is strengthening partnerships with “longtime collaborators” and is “going all-in on VR” after six years. “There are exciting things on the horizon and we can’t wait to tell you more,” writes the studio’s founder.
There is no news from Camouflaj since 2020, but so far everything indicates that the studio is working on a VR game for the Playstation VR 2, which could be released at the launch of the next-gen headset.
Camouflaj’s first VR game is now free for Quest and PC VR
Camouflaj started out as a smartphone developer and later ported his first major game, the dystopian stealth title République, to other systems, including virtual reality. In 2019, République VR was released for Meta Quest.
To celebrate the title’s tenth anniversary, the studio is giving away the game. You can get it through the Oculus Store and Steam. For Playstation VR, République was released in March in a paid anniversary edition.
When the Playstation VR 2 will hit the market is still a mystery. According to the latest blog post, Sony is in the midst of preparations for the launch. It looks more like 2022 than 2023, but it’s not confirmed.
