iPhone 14 Pro’s ‘Dynamic Island’ will be copied

YouTuber Marques Brownlee says in a new video Wednesday that Apple’s “Dynamic Island,” offered exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro and flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max, “will be one of the most copied features in the smartphone world in about 18 months. I pretty much guarantee … But the fact is, it’s going to be surprisingly hard to copy it exactly like this at this level. “

It sounds pretty harmless, pretty simple, but there’s a lot going on here. As if there was a new display engine in the A16 Bionic that handles all of these animations and there are many that really bring it all together. There is physics. Hit the cutout and it wobbles and moves a bit like it’s alive. And since there are actual cutouts like holes in the display for the camera and Face ID system, it needs to be touch sensitive in the areas around the actual cutout so that it can still register touches when you tap a dead area on the screen. And, for the most part, it works pretty well.

Was this feature technically invented by LG seven years ago with the LG V10’s top screen? Yes, absolutely.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION, Apple did not copy Dynamic Island from the LG V10 phone, introduced on October 8, 2015. That phone had a secondary display at the top of the primary display that attempted to act almost exactly like the Touch Bar in Apple’s MacBook Pro. It also failed to catch on.

And, as we wrote last Thursday:

So now, of course, all South Korean dishwasher makers (and worse) will fake Apple’s “Dynamic Island” on their slow, insecure Android dog that will follow users in a few months. – MacDailyNews, September 8, 2022
