Indian PC market slumps down to 3.7 million shipments: IDC

In November last year, the Indian PC market, which includes desktops, workstations and notebooks, had a record shipments of 4.5 million units, despite the global shortage of chips. But, according to the latest report from research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), this is the first time the Indian PC market has collapsed below four million shipments in the past four quarters.

The report also suggests that demand in Indian markets over the April-June 2022 period was quite strong and saw 17.8% year-over-year growth. While notebooks continued to drive demand with over 2.6 million units sold, the desktop segment is no different with over a million units sold.

“Online channels have dwindled in the past few quarters. While the high influx into offline channels led to a positive quarter for consumers, growth slowed as schools started opening, thus leading to a reduction in the demand for distance learning, “Bharath said in a press release. Shenoy, Senior Market Analyst, PC Devices, IDC India.

But suppliers are betting on opening colleges and hope that back-to-college promotions coupled with online sales starting late in the third quarter will help restore momentum.
