Varanasi: A video of a white-clad ‘ghost’ walking across rooftops in Varanasi has gone viral, creating panic among locals.
Police have registered a case against unknown criminals at Belupur police station.
Ramakant Dubey, inspector of Belupur police station, said, “There is fear among people. On their complaint, we have lodged an FIR against unknown persons and have stepped up patrolling in the area.
The chaos started a few days ago when a video of VDA Colony located in Badi Gabi area went viral on WhatsApp showing a shadow walking.
Later, three more similar clips appeared on social networks, which intensified the panic. Some locals said that the video looks real, while most of them found it to be a fake video.
“It seems to be a fake video, but there is a lot of fear among the locals, so we have decided to approach the police to investigate the matter to reveal the truth,” said Suresh Singh, a local resident.
Meanwhile, the DCP appealed to the people that no such incident happened in Varanasi and asked them not to forward such viral videos.
The city police have already launched a hunt to trace a ghost who is giving nightmares to people living around a park in Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) Colony, under Bhelupur police station.
