Gordon was beaten by Sammy Watkins for 14 yards on the opening drive and then by Allen Lazard for 8 yards. Rodgers believed Gordon was able to beat Lazard for a score later in the drive, but the junior recovered well to strip the ball and limit the Packers to a field goal.
But Rodgers turned to his strengths repeatedly Sunday night, and just before halftime, he and Lazard connected for a touchdown against Gordon on a 5-yard slant, giving the Packers 24-7 an advantage.

Unofficially, Gordon missed a lot of tackles while allowing six completions and a touchdown. It was clear that Gordon’s matchup with Rodgers would be a true test of his abilities. The Hall of Fame quarterback wouldn’t let the youngster out of the torture chamber after smelling blood.
Gordon didn’t have much control over the Packers’ offense against him Sunday night. But now he hopes to use the facts of his first meeting with Rogers to prepare for what happens next. Gordon confirmed, “I learned a lot from Rogers.” Just my movements during the defense and afterwards, just me, myself and private pursuits.
I really need to focus more on the cerebral aspect of the game, tackling and positioning myself to make the play. I’ll be prepared for that next time.
Jaylen Johnson, a terrific cornerback for the Bears, stepped in for Gordon. When Kyle Fuller was on the other side of the field during his rookie season, he remembers teams picking on him “almost every game.”
Rodgers didn’t even look at Johnson on Sunday. When you already have the match you want, why waste time? Johnson had no choice but to watch as Rogers abused Gordon. This is the life of the corner.
When asked about his message to Gordon after the game, Johnson said, “Oh, keep playing.” He belongs in the league. People will play those games where other players chase them. You have to come up with a strategy to get them off your back. But even the best of us have experiences.
It is not very difficult to teach. You’d better feel it. It will help if you experience it. It cannot be removed. Keep his head up, please. Cornerback people, you know the emotion because we’ve all felt it.
There’s not much you can say to someone who competes, who wants to win, and who isn’t willing to chase quarterbacks after them. The key is to keep going no matter what. Gordon was disappointed with the outcome of his first visit to Lambeau Field after the game.
He didn’t sulk though. He was not discouraged. It’s just the latest step in his still-developing NFL career.

Gordon noted, “It’s annoying but I’m not mad because I’ll learn from it. I want the experience and I will learn and grow from it.” Gordon could have a promising future in the NFL. But he is still a rookie for now. Every week defenders will be after him.
