LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND: Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp had to reflect on his side’s inability to control matches this season as a late goal helped Leeds United fight 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday. He reaped the victory, as the Reds dominated the game.
Liverpool won early but returned to draw with Mohamed Salah. He enjoyed nearly 70% possession and scored 10 shots on goal, but still came out empty-handed at the end of his streak of 29 straight home wins.
“It was a setback, of course. I think we got off to a really good start and then we scored a weird goal, “Klopp told Sky Sports.
“We scored, but for some reason it wasn’t safe for us. We struggled to control the game and delivered too many balls, “explained the German.
“The guys tried it, we had good ball possession and great chances, but in the end if it’s 1-1 and you defend the position around the second goal like that, you leave everything open.
Klopp’s side created a total of 22 scoring chances, but injuries and illness deprived them of key players, especially in attack where they missed Diogo Jota.
“Harvey (Elliott) has been great for us this season. He started well but couldn’t continue. Stop, ”Klopp said sadly.
