Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has named Ryan Giggs and Paolo Maldini as the players he most admires.

The Frenchman played for eight different clubs during his glittering career, but it was his five years at Old Trafford that made him famous.

Cantona joined United in a £1.2m deal from Leeds, who had grown tired of the striker’s antics.

Howard Wilkinson was keen to win against Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson felt he could tame the striker’s temper.

He was proved right as he got the best out of Cantona, who inspired United to four league titles in five years.

Cantona then unexpectedly announced his retirement at the age of 30 and has since taken up acting.

The Frenchman admits he “gets bored easily” but that’s why he admires Giggs and Maldini, who have spent their entire careers at their boyhood clubs.

‘I am very happy. I still have great moments in another world, which I think is much better than becoming a manager or staying in the world of football. I don’t know if it’s better,” Cantona told Athletic.

“I admire Ryan Giggs or Paolo Maldini who played at the same club for 20 years as a professional.

“I admire them because I can’t do it, I get bored very quickly, maybe because I have other passions.”
