The community-driven protocol Antelope forked and renamed the EOSIO 2.0 codebase through a coalition of four EOSIO protocol-based blockchains led by the EOS Network Foundation.
The coalition, formed in January, is made up of EOS, Telos, WAX and UX Network. Each chain will share Antelope’s underlying blockchain code base while working together to accelerate the development of the core protocol.

According to a press release shared with Cryptopatata, the Github repository and the Antelope website have been made public. The protocol describes itself as an open framework for building fast, secure, next-generation decentralized applications (dApps) and Web3 services.
“The release of Antelope is the culmination of a historic effort undertaken by some of the most talented blockchain developers. We are building on over four years of battle-hardened code and cumulative knowledge of four L1 chains that leverage each other’s strengths, all united behind the Antelope protocol, “said Yves La Rose, CEO and Executive Director by EOS Network Foundation.
According to Douglas Horn, chief architect of Telos, Antelope is a protocol designed by its users for its users.
“Together we will launch Antelope as the most intuitive, stable and secure protocol for building new chains that are infinitely flexible and constantly upgradeable,” he added.
Enabling communication between chains
Improving Antelope’s technical areas is the coalition’s initial goal. Once this is achieved, the group will focus on building a larger ecosystem for the protocol.
The announcement noted that the initial version of Antelope includes several innovative features, such as API enhancements, history pruning, and advanced cryptographic features. The coalition also proposed several critical RFPs to improve the protocol, including proposals for faster purpose, SDKs, and P2P code enhancements.
Additionally, the coalition will support UX Network in implementing its Trustless Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) system to enable interactions between Antelope-based networks.
Meanwhile, the rebranding of EOSIO is in the works from the fallout with Block.one. In April, the coalition committed an annual budget of $ 8 million to iterate the EOSIO code base and rejuvenate the ecosystem.
