Despite the geopolitical challenges: globalization is important

The corona epidemic and the war in Ukraine have shown Europe that it is important to be independent in terms of technology and energy. However, we must not forget that our economy is in many ways the result of globalization.

The success of geoeconomics has been achieved because of the war in Ukraine. What was taken for granted in the era of globalization must be re-evaluated almost daily in the age of “communication wars” (Mark Leonard). Europe in particular is paying the price for this. The lifetime of nuclear power plants, access to materials and markets, gas and the lack of chips are just a few examples of the accumulation of uncertainty.
