Daniel Bruhl All Quiet on the Western Front Netflix Movie: Coming to Netflix October 2022

As one of the largest-scale major productions ever to come out of Germany, much rests on the success of the remake of the Oscar-winning war film, All the silence on the Western Front. Coming to Netflix in October 2022. All the silence on the Western Front is one of the biggest non-English language films of the year and many subscribers should be excited to watch. BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated Edward Berger (Patrick Melrose, Jack) will direct the film, and former Washington Post journalist Ian Stockel and producer and actor Leslie Patterson will write the script. The writing duo has previously collaborated on short films such as The negotiations and The bike ride.

Award-winning cinematographer James Friend (Patrick Melrose, Your Honor) will join the production as operator. The film will be produced by Amusement Park’s Malte Grunert (The Aftermath, Land of Mine) and Daniel Dreyfuss (Sergio, no). Actor Daniel Brühl (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) is also attached as an executive producer and one of the lead actors.

Amusement Park Film GmbH is behind the production.

Director Edward Berger shared his excitement about working on this film in an interview:

“It’s a physical, visceral and very modern film that has never been told from my country’s point of view, never been made into a German-language film. Now we have the chance to make an anti-war film that will really touch our audience.”

Producer Malte Grünert added in the same interview:

“In Edward’s hands [Berger]it will be a very meaningful and contemporary take on history, a powerful film and an impressive cinematic experience.”

What is the plot of All the silence on the Western Front?

on Netflix All quiet on the west side front is an adaptation of the classic World War I novel of the same name by German infantry veteran and noted writer Erich Maria Remarque. Remarque published it in 1929, and it continues to be taught in curriculums around the world largely because of its sobering account of the futility of war.

As Variety reports of the film’s synopsis,

“The story follows teenagers Paul Baumer and his friends Albert and Müller who volunteer to join the German army, riding a wave of patriotic fervor that quickly dissipates as they face the brutal realities of life at the front. Paul’s preconceived notions about the enemy and about right and wrong in the conflict soon crumble. However, amid the countdown to the armistice, Paul must continue to fight to the end, with no other goal than to satisfy the high command’s desire to end the war with a German offensive.

Producer Malte Grünert commented on the importance and relevance of this film:

“All Quiet on the Western Front is to this day truly the definitive novel about war and its utter senselessness. War knows no heroes. One hundred years after its publication, All Quiet on the Western Front retains all its impact and power.

Edward Berger also said:

“This German world bestseller is able to convey the inhuman horror of war perhaps more impressively than any other work of literature. For me, making his first German film adaptation is one of the most exciting challenges.”

Who is thrown into All the silence on the Western Front?

The film will star the Golden Globe nominee Daniel Bruhlwho is best known for his roles in The Alien, Rush and Captain America: Civil War and Disney The Falcon and Winter Soldier. In May 2021, Netflix revealed the rest of the cast for All the silence on the Western Front. Includes a German newcomer Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuh (Bad banks), Aaron Hilmer (The last word), Edin Hasanovich (Skylines), David Streisow (Dignity), Michael Wittenborn (Merz against Merz) and Sebastian the Hulk (Dark).

What is the production status of the film?

Shooting for All the silence on the Western Front began in March 2021. Filming took place primarily on location in Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic. In April 2021, during an interview for The Falcon and the Winter SoldierDaniel Brühl confirmed that filming has begun in Prague, Czech Republic, and showed off his new look:

In May 2021, Netflix revealed the first look from the film and confirmed that filming had been underway since March.

As of May 27, 2021, filming has wrapped and has been in post-production ever since.
