Apple TV+ has ‘arguably the best TV show of the year’

CNET’s Mark Serrels says Apple TV + is the place to find and watch “probably the best TV show of the year so far”.

The show is, as anyone who has seen it has already guessed, Separation.

From director and executive producer Ben Stiller comes creator Dan Erickson Separation. Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a layoff procedure, which surgically divides their memories between work and personal life. This daring experiment of “work-life balance” is called into question when Mark finds himself at the center of an unfolding mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. Exclusively on Apple TV +.

Mark Serrels for CNET:

Inside Separation is a high-concept show strongly centered on the exploration of that original idea: of divided lives and artificially imposed and physically induced work-life balance. But despite its one lofty concept, Separation it also plays on the tropes established in the last 20 years of prestige television.

It operates on multiple levels. Separation is undoubtedly a “mystery box” show, like Lost. There’s a central mystery to be solved, and the drip show feeds audience information, playing with Reddit investigators who love to understand the twists and turns before they unfold.

But Separation it subverts it by being also … extremely fun. He never takes himself seriously as a show like Westworld. It never basks in its own importance. In many ways Separation takes its cue from (but also parodies) shows such as The officecelebrating the daily routine of office life …

This is what makes it Separation special. She becomes addicting like Lost and funny like The office. He becomes lyric about the human condition, but he also manages to parody the era he is a part of. In many ways Separation is the first post-prestige television classic. It does it all.

Self Separation keeps its narrative tight and stays true to what made the show so compelling to begin with, we could witness greatness. At the very end, Separation it’s my favorite show of 2022 so far and, for my money, the best show on Apple TV +.
