YouTube makes the best decision for its shorts

After the redesign announced earlier this week, YouTube will offer separate tabs for short films, live streams, and traditional videos. A change that manufacturers are eagerly awaiting.

From the height of its almost 18 years, YouTube is more than ever a giant of the web. When the Google platform decides to revise its interface, it does not go unnoticed. Earlier in the week, the Mountain View giant’s service offered a design change (see below).

Even YouTube does not forget Shorts, this short video format that should help him fight TikTok or Instagram Reels. The platform announces that it is adding separate tabs for short films, live streams and long videos. These new tabs are three in number, as Google explains:

  • Short card : here you only see Shorts. When you view the shorts in the shorts feed and switch from the feed to a creator’s channel, you will jump directly to this new tab to continue enjoying their shorts!
  • Live card : here you will find the previous live broadcasts
  • Video Card : This card continues to host long content

YouTube has been looking for shorts since their appearance in 2021, much to the chagrin of some users. These short videos (up to 60 seconds) that look like TikTok were mixed so far with the other videos. The platform says yes “understood” that the presence of cards “makes it easier for viewers to discover the types of content that interest them most when they browse a creator’s channel.”. Please note that short films and live streams will disappear “gradual” from the card dedicated to long format videos.

In addition to the tabs, YouTube offers a new design

This decision comes a few days after the presentation of the new design of the platform. Google’s goal – which bought YouTube in October 2006 – is to bring modernity, whether through the smartphone app, to a PC or TV. YouTube offers itself to new ambient mode for dark mode, allowing the background to take on the tones used by the content on the screen. At the same time this theme even darker while the subscribe button is no longer red.

In fact, it becomes more visible and appears in white with the dark theme. The buttons are also more modern and the playlists get a new interface. Here too there is the ambition to gain in modernity and to bring a certain harmony between devices (mobile, web and TV). At the same time, links in the video descriptions evidence.
