Will Smith and Jada celebrated their birthdays with family

It’s birthday time at the Smith House! Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith turned another year older this month. Will turned 54 on Sunday and Jada turned 41 on September 18.

A source says the couple celebrated their September birthdays and anniversaries with family over two weekends.

“Will and Jada each celebrated their birthdays at home, and all three kids were there,” the insider told sources. “So it was a small, intimate holiday with the family at home – two weeks in a row.”

They married in 1997 and have two children: a son, Jaden, who is 24, and a daughter, Willow, who is 21. Will also has a 29-year-old son, Trey, with ex-wife Sherry Zampino.

Since the Oscars in March, when Will slapped Chris Rock on stage because he made a joke about Jada’s shaved head and the fact that she has alopecia, the Smiths have been tight-lipped.

Last month, they went out in public for the first time since the Oscars. Photographers spotted them at Nobu, where they went for a Saturday afternoon meal, and took their picture. Will had a beard and Jada slipped a finger through her husband’s belt to stay close to him.

The Best Actor winner was hurt by Will’s slap for months. He left the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was unable to attend Academy events for 10 years.

In June, Jada opened up about the Oscars controversy and how it affected her relationship with Will on an episode of her show Red Table Talk.

“For Oscar night. My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she said of her husband and Rock. “With the state of the world today, we need both and we all actually need each other more than ever.”

“Until then, Will and I will continue to do what we’ve been doing for the last 28 years – and that’s [to] keep figuring out this thing called life together,” the Girls Trip actress concluded. “Thank you for listening to me.”

Will, who has apologized more than once for what he did, has continued to lean on his wife over the past year. In August, a source told PEOPLE that Will is happy that Jada is always there for him.

Another source agreed, adding: “Will is doing well. He spends a lot of time with Jada. He greatly appreciates her constant support. They are very close and support each other. Family is everything to them.”
