OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Sept. 19 will be a federal holiday of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her state funeral in London.

Speaking at a rally in New Brunswick today, Trudeau said “announcing an opportunity for Canadians to grieve on Monday will be important.”

He says the government will work with the provinces and territories to ensure they are “aligned.”

Monday will be a day off for federal employees and those in federally regulated industries, but it will be up to provincial and territorial governments to declare the holiday for other workers.

Trudeau also says he and the offices of opposition leaders are working on a final list for the delegation that will attend the funeral in person.

Commemorative ceremonies will also be held in Canada, including a parade, a flyover and a nationally televised church service in Ottawa.
