Transport estimates that the savings from the Renfe discounts will be between €600 and €1,000 per family

The government has estimated that the savings associated with free city and medium-distance trains, as well as 50% discounts on Avant and some AVE, will reach 1,000 euros per family in the coming monthsand September and December.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Program, Raquel Sanchez, during her speech at the press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, in which she announced that around 300,000 people have already registered on the Renfe website to claim these free subscriptions starting this Wednesday.

Savings are calculated from a family of a couple and two student children that travel in the metropolitan area of the main Spanish cities that have Cercanías (Rodalies in Catalonia) and Media Distancia services.

In this way, families, according to government estimates, will save during these four months around €600 in Madrid, €750 in Barcelona and up to €1000 in other major cities like Valencia or Seville.

Raquel Sánchez used her speech to challenge the PP and its president, Alberto Núñez Feijo, to vote in favor of the aid package that includes this free train, understanding that “positively impacts families and workers“.

“This measure helps families, young people, workers and ultimately everyone because it makes public transport more manageable, enabling people to go to work, education, health centers and other public services. This is a relief for their economies, especially for the most vulnerable, and it is beneficial for society as a whole, because it helps to control the inflationary spiral”, added the minister.
