Tokyo police will increase security in Shibuya ahead of Halloween

TOKYOOctober 28 (NHK) –
Tokyo police will increase security in the bustling Shibuya district from Saturday as large numbers of people are expected to gather there on Monday’s Halloween eve.

Halloween has drawn large numbers of revelers to the area in the past. But the figure has dropped sharply since 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Police say the area is expected to be crowded this year, in part because restrictions on overseas arrivals have been eased.

Riot police will be stationed near Shibuya Station in areas such as the riot crossing to deal with any potential problems.

If the area is heavily congested, a public relations unit known as the ‘DJ Police’ will be dispatched to direct pedestrians.
