The husband-wife duo is on trial for abetting the suicide of Vaishali Thakkar

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh police on Monday arrested a husband-wife duo for allegedly harassing and abetting the suicide of television actress Vaishali Thakkar.

The actress was found dead at her home in Indore on Sunday.

The accused couple, who are also neighbors of the victim, have been identified as Rahul Navlani and his wife Disha Navlani. They have been booked under Sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly persuading the actor to commit suicide.

“Rahul, who is a neighbor of Vaishali, his name was mentioned by the victim in her death note found by the police during investigation. The victim has mentioned that Rahul was harassing her due to which she took this extreme step. She was about to get married and Rahul was bothering her about it,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moti-ur Rehman said.

“Police raided Rahul’s residence. However, it was not found there. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” the ACP added.

She was found hanged in her room on Sunday. The local police reached the spot and took the body for autopsy.

Takkar’s parents are from Mahipalpur town in Ujjain and have been living with their daughter in Indore for the past one and a half years.

Notably, back in April 2021, Thakkar got engaged to Kenya-based surgeon Abhinandan Singh and shared a video on her Instagram with the caption, “What’s yours will eventually find you even on the other side of the world .”

However, she later deleted the video and stopped posting anything about her fiance, which also led to speculation of trouble in her love life.

She was known for her work in shows like ‘Sasural Simar Ka’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and ‘Super Sisters’.
