The 2022 edition of the World’s Best Bars has been announced

You can forget about London. New York, please move. The title “best bar in the world” was awarded to Paradiso, located in Barcelona. With the creation of the World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2009, it is the first time a bar located outside of New York or London has won the top spot.

Paradiso is a Mediterranean-style establishment run by Giacomo Giannotti and Margherita Sader and hidden behind the freezer door of a pastrami bar in Barcelona’s trendy El Born district. In 2021, the bar reached a new high of number 2. “To win is a great responsibility as well as a great honor.

To maintain our reputation as the best, we will strive tirelessly without compromising our values. Our libations are an attempt to grow the imagination,” Giannotti revealed the news to 50 Best on Tuesday night. “However, a lot of effort is needed. As the level of effort increases, so does the level of knowledge gained and imagination allowed.

We’ll be toasting the occasion and then we’ll be back to our usual haunt at the bar.”For a first at the event, the Top 50 awards were revealed on Tuesday night in Barcelona rather than London. Three of the 10 best bars in 2022 are located in this lively Catalan capital. From 37th rank in 2021 to third place this year, Sips was the “highest climber” of the year.

At number seven we have two dumb ones. Four Spanish establishments are in the top 50, with 15th place going to Salmon Guru in Madrid. In 2022, some Italian water bodies made the top 50 list, including water bodies in Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples. L’Antiquario Napoli, a newcomer to the top 50, landed at number 46, making Naples, in the south, the first Italian city to make the top 50.

Both Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and Florence, Italy, made their first appearances. Although no longer the best place for a martini, London is still a top attraction for travelers around the world. The Connaught Bar, which was ranked number one for two years in a row, dropped to eighth place this year, one of five London watering holes to be axed.

Awards show host Mark Sansom called London’s Tayr + Elementary “one of the most creative bars on the planet” and they managed to retain their 2020 ranking as the second best bar in the world. More of the best bars can be found in Europe than anywhere else.
The Top 650 was determined by polling 650 professional bartenders, bar owners, beverage writers and cocktail experts.

What will patrons find in bars right now

As the pandemic has made bar-hopping less appealing, Sansom says venues are responding by providing more live entertainment and expanding their food menus to keep patrons entertained for longer. In addition, there is a blurring of definitions between beverages and foods.

Sansom again uses New York’s Double Chicken Please as an example of how “methods and flavors related to food and gastronomy are evolving in cocktails and cocktail craft.” From the Waldorf Salad (made with whiskey, apple, celery, ginger beer and walnut bitters) to Japanese cold noodles, the bar’s Back Room menu is full of libations that take inspiration from food.

Food-related flavors are also heavily used at Two Schmucks in Barcelona. According to Sansom, “I think the Curry Colada is one of the best drinks I’ve ever had.” He said that in the past decade, centrifuges and other once-reserved labs have made their way into cocktail bars dedicated to the art of mixing drinks.

Paradiso, the best bar in the world, uses custom-made glassware that sometimes serves as the inspiration for the drink, not the other way around. In light of the events of the past few years, Sansom argues that it is now more important than ever to provide exceptional hospitality.

“Since the outbreak, bars have become much more aware of the importance of each customer and making them feel welcome, comfortable and safe when they enter these establishments.”
