aylor Swift sent fans into a frenzy at the 2022 MTV VMAs by announcing a brand new album moments after picking up the night’s biggest award.
The pop megastar picked up several awards on the night, including the coveted Best Video and Best Long Video for All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).
Swift made the bombshell announcement in the final moments of Sunday’s show, which was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and was hosted by Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow and LL Cool J.
Taking to the stage for the second time of the night, the Shake It Off hitmaker said: “It’s such an honor to be recognized alongside such amazing artists and directors.
“For the first time in VMA history, four of the directors in the Video of the Year category are women.
“Guys, I’m so proud of what we did and every second of that moment and we couldn’t have made this short if it wasn’t for the fans.
“I wouldn’t have been able to re-record my albums if it wasn’t for you… you encouraged me to do this.
She continued: “Since you’ve been so generous, I thought it might be a fun time to tell you that my brand new album is coming out on October 21st.”
Swift promised screaming fans that more information would be released at midnight.
On the twelfth beat, Swift’s official website crashed. On social media, she shared the title and artwork of the 13-track album, describing it as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”
“It is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through horrors and sweet dreams,” she wrote. “The floors we walk and the demons we face. For all of us who have wandered around and decided to leave our lanterns burning and go looking – hoping that maybe when the clock strikes 12 … we’ll meet ourselves.”
This release will mark the singer’s 10th studio album and her first collection of new songs in nearly two years.
