Verdict of the film
Babli Bouncer begins in an interesting way with the introduction of the main characters and their life in the village. The film has some comedic scenes in the first half that will make us forget the time and start enjoying the film. But the length of the film disturbs the flow, as we need to look at a lot of stretched scenes in the film to establish the characters and situations around them. The story point of a woman working as a bouncer in the club sounds interesting and few scenes in the second half are good. But the film falls low in the second half with increasingly elongated scenes and dramas. The climax of the film ends with an emotional note that will make us reflect.
As for the acting, Tamannaah Bhatia was fantastic in the role of Babli. Although the actress seems artificial in some scenes, she managed to bring the best of her portrayal of her into emotional scenes and a few other scenes in the film. The dialect she used for her character also seems perfect. Saurabh Shukla is decent in the role and looks natural in every scene. Shahil Vaid performed decently as Kukku and elicited few laughs. Karan Singh as Mannu is fine with a few scenes, but he needs to improve a lot more as an actor. All the other actors did their part well as required for the story.
Technically the Babli Bouncer movie is good. The songs and background music composed by Karan Malhotra and Tanishk Bagchi are decent. The frames set by Himman Dhamija look colorful and the scenes shot in the village capture some beautiful scenery. Editing of the film could have been sharper as the length of the film could have affected the viewer’s experience. Production values are as good as required for the story.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar, known for style and character presentation, has handled this film to some degree in his own mark. But few scenes suggest whether this film is really directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, as they seem overly dramatic and tense.
Overall, Babli Bouncer is a watchable journey of a bouncer with some good performance and accomplishment. You can stream this beautiful drama on Hotstar right now.
