Six drown during Durga idol immersion in Ajmer district

Jaipur: Six people, including a youth and his uncle, drowned to death during the immersion of a Durga idol in Ajmer district on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Nandla village under Nasirabad Sadar police station where around 25 people had gone to immerse a Durga idol. Locals said that first one of the young men slipped into a ditch full of rainwater, and five more jumped in to save him, but all six of them drowned.

The police along with the villagers pulled out the six people from the ditch and took them to the Nasirabad hospital where they were declared brought dead. Senior police officers have arrived at the scene.

Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “My deepest condolences to the bereaved families, may God give them strength to bear this loss and may the departed soul rest in peace.”
